Terence Gooding, an entrepreneurial industrialist, is chairman of the
board and chief executive officer of the Grass Valley Group. Gooding also

Dr. Gooding has 35 years of experience in managing, developing,
acquiring, and restructuring international technology businesses. He has
successfully led and grown five high technology companies, two of them to
more than $1 billion in revenues.
In 1991, Gooding acquired Wavetek Corporation, a 29-year-old publicly
owned company based in San Diego, California, and took it private. Under
his leadership, with a sharp focus on product development, expansion of
operations in Europe and Asia and three complementary acquisitions, the
company was transformed into the second largest communications test

million annually in eight years.
Prior to Wavetek, Gooding transformed one of Britain's oldest
scientific instrument companies, Cambridge Instruments, founded in 1881 by
Horace Darwin, the son of the famous biologist Charles Darwin, into the
world's largest manufacturer of optical instruments with revenue growth
from $20 million to more than $1 billion in 11 years. In 1990, Cambridge
acquired Wild Leitz Holding AG, which owned the famous Leica Camera Group,
and became Leica plc.
In 1981, while Gooding was serving as chairman of Cambridge, he formed
a new company, Picker International, with Britain's General Electric
Company and acquired RCA's Picker Corporation, a $500 million medical
imaging company, and GEC and Cambridge's medical businesses. Gooding
served as president and CEO for five years. In 1993, Picker introduced the
first commercial magnetic resonance medical imaging system.
Gooding founded Maxwell Laboratories in San Diego in 1965. Today, the
high technology company, which has revenues of $200 million annually,
serves government and commercial markets.
Gooding received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the
University of Wales in 1955, and a PhD. in nuclear physics from the
