Grass Valley Group Extends Kalypso Video Production Center Line With
Introduction Of Two M/E Version
Addition Brings Comprehensive Capabilities of Four M/E Predecessor
to New Live, Post Production, and Mobile Markets
NEVADA CITY, Calif., Feb. 4, 2000 The
Grass Valley Group today announced a two mix/effects (M/E) version of its
popular Kalypso Video Production
Center family. Based on the same industry-leading architecture as the four
M/E version, the introduction of a two M/E Kalypso switcher provides a
powerful, yet flexible solution for more compact operations such as small-
to mid-sized mobile operations and post production.
As the hub of a teleproduction environment, the Kalypso Video
Production Center family supports the Grass Valley Group's Media Without
Bound technology and solutions
initiative to optimize video and other content creators' digital
distribution strategies. It derives that support by combining
industry-leading switching and powerful M/E capabilities with an open,
networked architecture that offers a precedent-setting degree of
operational integration. Able to support both SD signals today and HD
signals before the end of the year, the Kalypso family enables
broadcasters to readily customize graphics and keys for multiple clients
and places significant levels of control into the hands of a technical
director.
"The Kalypso Video Production Center, with its enormous flexibility is
unmistakably the most advanced production switcher on the market today,
"said Tim Thorsteinson, president and chief operating officer of the Grass
Valley Group. "Today's introduction of the two M/E version brings those
capabilities to a variety of new markets and customers."
Designed for small- and mid-sized live production facilities,
postproduction houses of all sizes, and mobile applications, the two M/E
version of the Kalypso Video Production Center offers the same
comprehensive, powerful M/E capabilities as its four M/E predecessor.
Users can network the two M/E control panel with a four M/E system to
allow simultaneous sharing, useful during pre-production or when two post
suites need to share the same system. The two M/E electronics frame also
scales easily to support a four M/E system with the inclusion of only
three boards.
On every M/E bank, users can place four keys such as graphics or logos
over a background video. Each keyer can also function as a chroma key. In
addition, every keyer in the system has a Borderline® generator to create drop shadows, extrudes,
and outlines. The Kalypso system also includes two utility buses per M/E
for such functions as external masks, video in wipe border operations, or
the Grass Valley Group's industry exclusive secondary background
transitions. Like the four M/E version, the two M/E Kalypso system
provides up to six channels of internal DVE and a 100 frame still store
with on-board hard disk storage and animation capability.
The Kalypso Video Production Center features powerful M/E partitioning
for secondary composites and layering. With its DoubleTake split M/E technology, users can divide the four
keyers between two separate background transitionseffectively creating
two complete M/E outputs from a single M/E bank. Using its
FlexiKey programmable clean feed
capability, operators have complete control over customizing graphics for
multiple clients. This feature is useful when a single event produced in
two languages requires different language-based graphics.
The two M/E version of the Kalypso Video Production Center is priced
starting at $145,000 (US) and will be available in May of 2000.
