"Making The News Across The UK" BBC
Equips Regional Facilities With Three Kalypso Systems
Nevada City, Calif., November 16, 2000
As part of an upgrade to its key regional news operations in Leeds,
Tunbridge Wells, and London, the BBC has ordered a total of three of the
Grass Valley Group's Kalypso Video Production Center systems.
"We are delighted to have secured such a significant order for the
Kalypso," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Grass Valley Group.
"With major orders already booked across Europe and the Middle East, the
product is now shipping across the region, and we feel very confident
about its future prospects."
The London and Tunbridge Wells facilities should be on air with the
new two mix-effects (M/E) Kalypso solutions by Spring 2001 with the Leeds
site scheduled to follow in 2002. At all three sites, the Kalypso
solutions will be used to help produce nightly news bulletins in addition
to a broad range of other news programs throughout the day.
The Kalypso Video Production Center family acts as the hub of a
teleproduction environment, combining industry-leading switching and
powerful M/E capabilities with an open, networked architecture that offers
a precedent setting degree of operational efficiency. With 80 inputs
(video or key) it offers fingertip control of a number of previously
off-board functions to streamline a broadcaster's workflow from greater
M/E capabilities to a programmable clean-feed system.
