Profile Family Shines During 58th Golden Globe Awards Broadcast

Nevada City, Calif., February 1, 2001 — From George Clooney to George Bush, it's been a busy couple of weeks for the Grass Valley Group's Emmy® award-winning Profile® line. Profile systems provided the digital backbone for the 58th Golden Globe Awards—and helped to support high-definition (HD) coverage of the inauguration of the nation's 43rd president.

At the Golden Globe Awards, multiple Profile systems replaced all tape machines, handling the capture and playback of everything from celebrity arrivals and nominee packages to the live presentations of the evening's awards and international program feeds. Sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the three-hour live telecast aired in the United States and in 122 countries across the globe.

The Golden Globe Awards broadcast was the latest in a string of awards programs anchored by the Profile family. Last year, it delivered a flawless performance at the 72nd Annual Academy Awards®. Profile systems have also been used at the American Comedy Awards, The Grammy Awards, The Screen Actors Guild Awards, The Soap Opera Awards, and The TV Guide Awards.

Meanwhile, the high-definition version of the Profile XP Media Platform helped to support PBS's HD coverage of the inauguration of George Walker Bush as the country's 43rd president. WETA Washington D.C., the flagship public broadcaster in the nation's capital, produced the HD program in cooperation with NHK for the non-commercial network. As national leader in producing HD programming, WETA broadcastings HD television 24 hours a day, seven days a week on digital channel 27 in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The Bush inauguration was the second high profile, high-definition event for the Grass Valley Group in the last month. On New Year's Day, the company helped KTLA-TV, a Los Angeles-based Tribune Broadcasting station, to broadcast the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in HD on KTLA-DT Channel 31 using the Profile XP Media Platform.

"Time and again, deadline-driven programmers and content providers turn to the Profile family because it provides the reliable, high-quality, and workflow-optimizing performance they need," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Grass Valley Group. "Its ability to wring efficiencies from the production process—such as the elimination of tape machines at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony—make it a perfect choice for our customers."
