The PDR400 is the latest enhancement to the Profile Family of video servers. With DVCPRO compression, users can now select the compression format that best suits their needs - M-JPEG compression with the PDR200 family, MPEG 4:2:2 compression with the PDR300 series and now, DVCPRO compression with the PDR400 series.

PDR400 Profile Video Server

The PDR400 compliments the rest of the Profile product line. Optimal for facilities who have standardized on the DVCPRO compression format, the PDR400 provides specific benefits to facilities who have standardized on DVCPRO.

DVCPRO 25 -- Up To Six Channels

With up to 6 DVCPRO 25 codecs, you can digitize material from 6 VTRs or cameras (of any format) simultaneously. This make the PDR400 extremely cost effective as these 6 channels can be used for either record or playout.

DVCPRO 50 -- Up To Three Channels

Start now with DVCPRO 25 and upgrade to DVCPRO 50 in the future. This low cost software upgrade uses existing hardware to offer DVCPRO 50 support. When in DVCPRO 50 mode -- the number of available channels is cut in half.

Fibre Channel Transfers

The quickest method to transfer data into the PDR400 is the high speed Fibre Channel network. This provides compatibility with other Profiles and with other vendors products. Fibre Channel links exist for EditStar, Avid Newscutter and Profile Network Archive.

APPLICATIONS

The PDR400 can be used in a variety of applications from News and Production, to on-air playout.

News

DVCPRO has become one of the industry leading acquisition formats and has become extremely popular for News organizations. Speed is critical for News operations and with the ingest capability of the PDR400, stories can be edited and ready for air in record time.

Production

DVCPRO has also become popular in production. Users from prime-time programs to wedding photographers are using DVCPRO cameras. The PDR400 offers basic editing capability for quickly trimming clips. More powerful editing applications will be available for those who need more capability.

The PDR400 offers excellent off-speed play, jog/shuttle and scrub audio - all the basic needs for editing.

On-Air Broadcast

Many facilities would like to maintain a common compression format to avoid generation loss from switching from one format to another. In these cases, the PDR400 is a very cost effective playout device with up to 6 play-out channels. Or in the case of an application that is edited on the PDR400, it can be used to play directly to air without moving the file to another server.

Anyway you want to structure your facility, the PDR400 will fit in perfectly.

Digital Media Foundation

The Profile is a key element in Grass Valley Group Digital Media Foundation. The format independent Profile family can be used as the common server throughout the facility - regardless of application or compression format.
