The PLS20 Profile^® Data Tape Drive is a cost-effective, standalone desktop drive capable of storing Profile material in its native format. At a cost per minute similar to that of broadcast videotape the PLS20 is an excellent choice for cost-effective, long-term storage of Profile material. The 8mm tape cartridges used are fully interchangeable with the Grass Valley Group PLS200 Profile Library System.

The PLS20 can be used across virtually the entire television industry in which the Profile is employed. These applications include:

On-Air

The PLS20 tape carries full interchange with tapes from the PLS200 Library. This will allow the PLS20 to be used as a backup to the larger PLS200 in the event of failure;

Production

The PLS20 can be to store material at any time in the production process, such as after an edit session, rather than requiring the use of a library or networked storage system away from the location of the operator;

Post-Production

The Mammoth tape format will make a good distribution medium for production houses to clients who have Profiles. Using a PLS20 at each end - rather than videotape - will result in the highest quality transfer possible. This will eliminate unnecessary decompression and compression steps as well as reduce quality control concerns;

Maintenance

By using a PLS20 in the repair shop customers can prepare a "test tape" for use in repairing and testing Profiles;

Archive

Because the PLS20 has full tape interchange with the PLS200 it can be used to quickly view the contents of a data tape without having to load the tape into the library.
