Company Background

Advanced Audio Video Systems was founded in 1979 by a team of specialist engineers and technicians, still involved in the everyday management. AAVS manufactures the audio and video equipment required to complete broadcast systems, and designs and implements such systems themselves. The company structure is designed for a flexible and personalised response to customer needs.

Following several years of strategic expansion and the setting up of factories in and out of France, AAVS is now the centre of a group of companies linked by capital investment or industrial agreements. This group is capable of pooling resources and skills, thereby ensuring a real international group synergy.

AAVS has been a pioneer in the field of computer-based systems designed for radio and television production and broadcasting, equipping 70% of French cable networks with broadcast automation. Having made its mark in Europe and throughout the world by

equipping some 100 TV automated systems, broadcasting programmes holds few secrets for its teams.

Its unique approach to creating broadcast sound and vision systems, based on the three areas of design & installation, signal processing equipment and computerbased systems, today enables AAVS, more than ever before, to offer a unique combination of experience and expertise.

Product Offering Overview

Automated broadcasting has an important role to play in television centres. Apart from the undeniable advantages that it brings in terms of economy, operating power and security, automated broadcasting becomes inevitable with the growth of multi-broadcasting and multichannel broadcasting.

Profile has been integrated into standard broadcast automation systems from AAVS:

  • systems based on a single-station Macintosh platform (the EVA range),
  • systems based on a multi-station architecture and PC platform, running under Windows NT (the @3 range).

Product Description

Profile provides features that can be easily used in different systems, from simple systems providing automation for a single broadcast channel to advanced systems providing complete control of several television channels:

  • Automated recording and transmission, transmission buffer (cache function), allowing pre-recording of variable duration, linked to the capacity of the Profile. Remote opt-out, allowing remote substitution of certain sequences, within a programme intended for broadcasting to other areas, by other items recorded locally on the remote Profile.

System Application Example

This Digital transmission suite, with VIDEOCART and Profile, is one of the different AAVS system applications. It offers all the powerful features associated with a Profile video server and DIVA videocart system.

The @3 software range :

AAVS introduces the @3 range, which allows for the management of any automated process in TV centers. Using the facilities of the @3 -Engine kernel, designed and conceived to interact globally with operators, equipment and data, the range includes :

  • @3 -On Air for automated singla/multichannel broadcasting
  • @3 -Remote for surveillance and local or remote back-up facilities for TV centers
  • @3 -Record for automated recording of external feeds
  • @3 -Copy for automated copying of audio/video sequences

Each application software controls the equipment as regards automation or tools for manual operation, handles the Beta video machines and all the system's functions, provides "Live" or "auto" operation, with short or repeated sequences handled by server.

Combining a DIVA MKV videocart system with a Profile video server gives this system unprecedented flexibility. While keeping operating costs strictly to a minimum, it allows continuous broadcasting of all kinds of programme elements, whether recorded internal productions or incoming signals.

The Profile video server provides all the flexibility necessary for easy and efficient handling of short sequences, whether live or previously broadcast. Its recording and management facilities allow short sequences to be compiled for ease of subsequent broadcasting.

Scanning of the playlist identifies those sequences whose duration requires them to be transferred. Transfer is carried out in the background. @3 -On Air then broadcasts the sequences from the audiovideo server.

Advanced operating features :

  • multi-playlist broadcasting
  • multi-channel broadcasting from Profile server
  • automatic transfer of tapes to Profile server
  • playlist skip, with event selection
  • management of pre-programmed events associated with a main element
  • modification of playlist being broadcast
  • external triggering
