Grass Valley and Nevada City, CaliforniaTravelCourse participants are expected to make their own hotel and travel arrangements. The nearest commercial airports are at Sacramento (70 miles) and at Reno, Nevada (90 miles) from Grass Valley / Nevada City. (Reno is not recommended during winter months due to possible problems in crossing the Sierra Nevada mountains). A rental car is recommended for travel from the airport as this also enables travel between the training site and the hotel each day. There is no suitable local transportation. AccommodationsThere are numerous small hotels in the Grass Valley / Nevada City area, but as this is a popular tourist area advance reservations are recommended. It is each participants responsibility to settle their own account and cancel reservations in advance should this become necessary. Things To DoThe area surrounding Grass Valley and Nevada City is rich with history from the early days of the state of California. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range at 2,500 feet the area was the center of the Gold Rush era. Some mines are still operating and the Empire Mine state park is often open for visitors. More information is available on the Nevada County Community Network web page. Within easy reach of Grass Valley/Nevada City are Lake Tahoe, Reno Nevada, Sacramento and a few hours away are San Francisco, the California Coast and the Napa Valley wineries.
