Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)
To jump-start its digital broadcasting efforts, Australia's national network has selected Grass
Valley Group media platforms and media production solutions. The $6 million (US) order includes 10
Grass Valley Kalypso Video Production Center systems and 19 Profile® XP Media Platform devices which
ABC will use as its digital television backbone, replacing its primarily analog infrastructure.
BBC
As part of a major upgrade of its Glasgow facilities, the BBC is one of the first broadcasters
in the UK to order the Profile® XP Media Platform. BBC Scotland plans to install two Profile systems
to more effectively manage the increasing demands of locally produced news.
Cosmos Broadcasting
Cosmos Broadcasting has reaffirmed its commitment to Grass Valley Group technologies by
announcing a $1.8 million order for multiple Profile® XP Media Platforms that it will deploy across
its 12-station group.
ESPN
ESPN Regional TV, the largest syndicator of college sports programming in the United States, has
selected Grass Valley Group digital equipment to support broadcasts from its new production facility
in Charlotte, North Carolina. The equipment line-up includes the next-generation Grass Valley 7500
NB digital router, multiple Profile® digital media platforms, a Grass Valley Series 7000 signal
management system, and numerous Grass Valley 8900 Series modular products.
KABC-TV
ABC-affiliate KABC-TV in Los Angeles, California, has purchased Grass Valley digital video
solutions to convert its existing analog facility to a completely digital infrastructure. The
purchase includes multiple Profile® XP Media Platforms to replace analog, tape-based systems, a
Kalypso Video Production Center, and approximately $1 million of 8900 Series and 2000 Wideband
Series modular products.
Media DVX
Think of it as a FedEx in the sky - except the service isn't next day, it's next minute. And
instead of parcels, it's carrying digital packets of information that, when reassembled, become the
commercials that appear during your favorite television programs. That's one way to describe an
all-new digital service launched by Media DVX and based on the Profile® XP Media Platform family.
Combining Internet file-transfer technologies with a satellite distribution network, the service
makes sending and receiving commercials as easy as exchanging e-mail.
Microsoft
The Grass Valley Group is working with Microsoft to bring interactive technology to mainstream
broadcast television playback and distribution via the Profile® XP Media Platform. To accomplish
this, the Grass Valley Group will leverage the technical strength and installed base of the Profile
product line - widely regarded as the cornerstone of the broadcast industry's transition to
digital - providing a logical, non-invasive integration of interactive television for today's
broadcast production and distribution processes.
NEP Supershooters
A world-class mobile production company, NEP Supershooters has installed the first mobile version
of the Kalypso Video Production Center in its new, high-end mobile unit to support coverage of live,
large-scale sporting and entertainment events. NEP Supershooters has provided facilities for nearly
every major sporting event worldwide, from the America's Cup, the Super Bowl, and Major League
Baseball's World Series to the US Golf Open, 1996 Summer Olympics and 1999 Women's Cup Soccer
events.
USA Cable
USA Cable has selected the Profile® XP Media Platform and Profile Network Archive as the storage
and playout backbone of its new digital network operations center. For USA Cable, the selection of
Profile technologies is a crucial step in the conversion of its network operations center to an
all-digital infrastructure. The Profile XP system will replace an existing tape-based system and
automate the playout of broadcasts from both the USA Network and SCI FI channels. The Profile
Network Archive will automate the transfer of materials between these new media platforms and the
USA Cable's tape library systems.
WAGA-TV
The Atlanta television station owned and operated by FOX Television Stations, Inc., will use
Grass Valley Group products to convert its news production control room from analog to digital, including the Kalypso Video Production Center and a complete
selection of Grass Valley modular technologies.
